we are close to the
borders of two other Departments, namely the Haute Vienne and the
Correze.
We are within easy access of many places of interest, which we hope
that you

LIMOGES:
this is the capital of the Haute Vienne and famous for its
porcelain. It is full of shops, bars, cafés and restaurants.
The old
'butchers quarter' offers some stunning architecture and there
is a tiny
chapel that is worth a look. The airport of course is to the
west of
Limoges and within easy reach of the cottages. There is an antiques
market
every 2nd Sunday in the month. About 1 hour away

THIVIERS:
this is the capital of foie gras in the Perigord Vert. It is
a
town steeped in history and has many lovely old buildings. There
is an
excellent market on each Saturday morning that is well worth
a visit during

PERIGUEUX:
This lovely city is the capital of the Dordogne. It has a
medieval centre with lots of interesting boutiques and cafés/restaurants.
There is a magnificent cathedral and interesting weekly market.
About 50
minutes away

BRANTOME:
This famous town is often referred to as the Venice of the
Perigord. It is truly beautiful with lots of shops, bars, restaurants
and
exhibitions. There is a fabulous market on a Friday morning
that covers a
large area by the Abbey. If you like canoeing, you can hire
them here, or
simply take a boat trip along the river to admire the countryside.

BOURDEILLES:
this is just a short trip further on from Brantome and has an
interesting chateau. It is possible to walk by the river and
enjoy the

JUMILHAC
LE GRAND: this lovely château town was originally famous
for its
gold mines. It is surrounded by pretty valleys and streams.
The chateau is
open to the public during the summer months. Each year usually
on 1st May),
there is a garden show in front of the chateau. Just 10 minutes
from the

ST
JEAN DE COLE: this is designated as one of France's most beautiful
villages. Each year in May it holds the 'Fleurilies' and the
whole village
is taken over by a flower show where you can buy plants or just
enjoy the
colour and atmosphere. About 25 minutes from the cottages.

ST
YRIEIX LA PERCHE: this is also designated as one of France's
most
beautiful villages. St Yrieix is a medieval town with lots of
lovely old
buildings to see, including a medieval castle. The town has
several
supermarkets and many attractive shops selling local produce.
About 20
minutes away.

COUSSAC
BONNEVAL: Close to St Yrieix la Perche and Segur le Chateau,
this village boasts a huge chateau dating back to the 10th century.
It's well stocked with artifacts and antiques, and there is
a large park that you can wander around in. Good restaurant
just outside.

SEGUR
LE CHATEAU: this village is just a short drive further on than
St Yrieix La Perche and is designated as one of France's most
beautiful Villages. It has pretty buildings dating back to the
10th century and is dominated by an ancient chateau in ruins.
There are 2 excellent restaurants by the river. Well worth a
visit.

HAUTEFORT:
The chateau at Hautefort has existed since the middle ages and
is well worth a visit. Lovely gardens too. The village is very
pretty with
delightful old cottages and welcoming bars and restaurants.

COLLONGES
LA ROUGE: This amazing village dates back to the 8th century
and
although further afield, is well worth a visit. It is famous
for its
beautiful old buildings made of red sandstone, giving the village
a
distinctive look.

to Beaulieu sur Dordogne, another outstandingly beautiful village
with large
waterway.

LEISURE
LAKES: You are never far from water in the Perigord Vert and
the
Limousin. From the cottages it is easy to access one of the
nearby leisure
lakes. One of the best is the 'Base de Loisirs' at Rouffiac
just 15 minutes
from the cottages. This offers canoeing, archery, water skiing
(teleski)
and sailing. There is also a beach and bar/restaurant. Other
nearby
lakes are at Ladignac le Long and St Yrieix la Perche.

GOLF:
the cottages are within easy reach of the 9 hold golf course
at the
Domaine d'Essendiéras and the 18 hole golf course at
Perigueux. Day tickets
can be purchased at a very reasonable price. Other courses
are at Brive and
Limoges, all within easy reach.

FISHING:
The
Dordogne has many waterways which are accessible and have
good stocks of fish, equally, just over the border, the Limousin
is known as the land of a thousand lakes. All of these rivers
and lakes afford the angler, whether committed or occasional,
some great days out with a fishing rod.
